AWOB: Absent Without Blogging

Ooookay, so we've been away a while.

So let's see, what's been going on since last summer?

Well, we got back from France and settled back into work.

In September, unfortunately, Jenny's grandmother, Ruby Collins Jones, passed away after some long and arduous battles with poor health. We were deeply saddened, but comforted by the hope that she is without pain and in a better place. We got to see a good number of the Jones clan, including Uncle Ken and Aunt Mary, in from Utah, and Uncle Bob and Aunt Jennifer. Would that it had been under better circumstances... Ruby lived a full and long life, she left on this world a rich legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and we truly believe she is at peace and at home.

We visited Jenny's parents a couple of times in October and November. As you can see, it, uh, rained a lot.

Despite the rain, we enjoyed the West Point crab festival, and despite appearances, we were neither stoned nor drunk.

Our friends Suzanne and Bob tied the knot in October, a lovely wedding at their horse farm in Loudoun County, Virginia. Congratulations, you crazy kids! :-)

Continuing with the long-running theme of "there's always something in this house that needs fixing", we replaced the water main. The original was some awful blue polyurethane made by Shell corporation, it was later found to be substandard and prone to breaking. Several neighbors have had their pipe burst, resulting in flooded lawns or flooded basements. We decided not to wait. This involved hiring a backhoe and this very very very large computer-directed underground borer, drilling a hole under the house about 50 feet long, and then threading a copper pipe from the utility room back to the main. You can see the machine, the hole, and the final results. It was pretty amazing to see them guide the drill bit right to a 18 x 18 inch hole in the concrete. They didn't even have to remove the washer/dryer to jackhammer the hole.

And that brings us up to December...ah, yes...December. We have some news. There's a clue in this post, if you can find it.

More to come...
